Red Sox 3, Clippers 1

COLUMBUS, Ohio –Steven Wright floated his knuckleball past his former teammates at Huntington Park Wednesday night to lead the Pawtucket Red Sox to a 3-1 win over Columbus in the final home game before the International League’s All-Star break.

The Clippers only managed three hits against Pawtucket as the Sox took the series three games to one.

Wright (4-1) allowed two hits in eight shutout innings with three walks and eight strikeouts.

Toru Murata (0-1) gave up two runs and tied a season high with seven strikeouts but was saddled with the loss.

Carlos Moncrief saved a run in the seventh when he gunned down Garin Cecchini from right field for league-leading 15th outfield assist.

But Pawtucket scored two in the eighth inning to cement the win.

The Clippers begin a six-game four-day series with IL West leaders Indianapolis at Victory Field to end the first half of the season. The two will play doubleheaders Thursday and Saturday with Game 1 of Thursday’s twin bill scheduled to start at 6:05 p.m.
