COLUMBUS –Tuesday night’s matchup in Rochester between undefeated pitchers meant there was a good chance one of them would have a loss at the end of the game.
But the Red Wings’ Tommy Milone (4-0) and the Clippers’ Mike Clevinger (6-0) dueled through seven scoreless innings before leaving two relievers to battle it out for the decision, which went to Rochester, 1-0.
The Clippers’ Austin Adams (2-3) took the loss while Rochester’s J.T Chargois picked up his first win of the season.
Chargois pitched the top half of the ninth inning, working around a two-out single, to preserve a scoreless tie that held up until Adam Walker drilled a 2-2 pitch to right field in the bottom of the inning. Eddie Rosario hustled around from second base and made a slide to evade a tag, getting his hand on the plate to score the winning run.
The two teams meet up again Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. for the second game of the three-game series.
