MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis Redbirds jumped on Clippers starter Robert Broom early, scoring all eight of their runs in their first at-bat on the way to an 8-4 win in the opening game of a series at AutoZone Park Tuesday.
Broom (2-2) gave up two runs on a Nolan Gomez homer before he had retired a single batter, then walked in another run before giving the ball to Danny Young who also walked in a run before surrendering a grand slam to Scott Hurst.
Matthew Liberatore (6-7) gave up three runs over seven innings of work.
Mike Rivera knocked in two runs for the Clippers, who stranded 20 base runners.
