Reds snap out of 8-game slump

CINCINNATI — The Reds snapped their eight-game losing streak, beating the Miami Marlins 14-0 shortly after manager David Bell and Yaiel Puif were suspended in the wake of a bench- clearing brawl.

The Reds hit five homers in all as they won for the first time since opening day.

Matt Kemp started Cincinnati’s spree of three consecutive homers as Luis Castillo dominated again.

Puig was suspended for two games and Bell for one for their roles in a bench-clearing fracas last weekend.

Pirates pitcher Chris Archer has been suspended for five games but has appealed his penalty and will play pending a decision.

Cincinnati’s Derek Dietrich stood in the batter’s box to admire his long home run Sunday, and two innings later Archer threw his first pitch behind the waist of Dietrich.

The benches and bullpens emptied with Puig leading the Reds’ contingent.
