Roadwork affects US 33 on NW and SE sides

COLUMBUS – Beginning this weekend, construction projects on U.S. Route 33 in opposite corners of Franklin County will affect drivers who travel between Columbus and Marysville and Lancaster.

Motorists traveling eastbound on Route 33 from Muirfield Village, Plain City and Marysville may want to allow for extra time for their commute as two ramps at the I-270/US 33 interchange will close and temporary traffic signals will be in place for both directions of US 33 starting Saturday night (right).

Meanwhile, work on several bridges on U.S. Route 33 between Columbus and Lancaster means only one travel lane will be available in both directions for about four miles for the two weekends starting Sept. 30(below).

Ohio Department of Transportation officials say the changes in the Dublin area are necessary so crews can continue constructing a new ramp from eastbound US 33 to northbound I-270.

If you travel US 33 on the south east side between Columbus and Lancaster, you will encounter several bottlenecks as the road is reduced to a single lane in both directions. Because the planned work involves the entire bridge deck, the roadway has to be reduced to one lane to allow crews to repair the road one half at a time while still maintaining traffic, said Nancy Burton, communications director for ODOT District 6, which includes Columbus.
