Robbery suspect arrested after chase

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Two men, including a bank robbery suspect, are due in court today after being arrested yesterday following a pursuit on a heavily-traveled central Ohio road.

Scott Thomas (above) was arrested Tuesday afternoon U.S. 23 in Delaware County after he tried to run from deputies in a car driven by John Thompson III, Delaware County Sheriff Russell Martin said.

Thomas, 26, was wanted in connection with a holdup at the Huntington Bank in Powell Saturday morning and Martin says he is believed to have been involved in several other recent holdups in the central Ohio area.

Martin says authorities spotted the men in a stolen car in the parking lot of the Walmart store at 1760 Columbus Pike.

“Unfortunately Thomas and the driver of the vehicle failed to comply with our deputies’ attempts to pull them over, and a brief vehicle chase followed,” Martin said.

Authorities used stop-sticks to bring a halt to the chase south of the store and both men were arrested, Martin said. He said they both sustained minor injuries.

U.S. 23 was shut down between Cheshire and Peachblow Roads for two hours following the incident.

Both men were taken to the Delaware County Jail where they will await arraignment on various charges, Martin says.

Thomas is facing charges of robbery and aggravated robbery. Thompson, who is also wanted on a felony warrant out of Franklin County, has been charged with felonious assault and failure to comply with a police officer’s order or signal, Martin said.
