Rock & roll: Slide closes road

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Parts of Ohio are bracing for more potential flooding to wrap up a soggy work week of rain and thunderstorms across many parts of the state.

Flood and flash flood warnings were in effect Friday morning in parts of Athens, Morgan, Vinton and Jackson counties in southeast Ohio, and numerous flood advisories were in effect in the eastern and southern parts of the state.

It was not immediately clear Friday morning if rain caused a rockslide on U.S. Route 52 near Coach Grove in Lawrence County that sent a boulder the size of a small house tumbling onto part of the roadway. Access to the bridges over the Ohio River to Ashland, Ky., was blocked for several hours, according to a release from the Ohio Department of Transportation.

A post on the ODOT Facebook page said crews will be working to remove the rock and restore the route to traffic.

WKYC-TV reports flooding in Tuscarawas and Harrison counties Thursday turned yards into lakes and kept many drivers off the roads.

Ohio was expected to see several mostly dry days after rainy conditions moved out of the state later Friday.
