NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The Browns are ruing a series of fatal mistakes that extended their winless streak to 19 games.
There were two missed field goals and two shanked extra points.
There were untimely penalties and a critical turnover in the last five minutes.
Yet the Browns still nearly forced overtime before falling 21-18 in New Orleans.
The loss came one week after an overtime tie with Pittsburgh.
The Saints say they’re relieved to have won but not entirely pleased with how they’ve played.
The Browns plan to release their wayward kicker.
On Monday, the Browns tried out several kickers and intend to sign free agent Greg Joseph to replace Zane Gonzalez, a person familiar with the decision told The Associated Press.
Gonzalez pushed the second of his two missed field goals wide right in the final seconds, right after Wil Lutz kicked a 44-yard field goal for the Saints with 21 seconds left.
Receiver Michael Thomas had two fourth-quarter touchdowns for the Saints after the Browns carried a nine-point lead into the period.
