COLUMBUS – The state on Monday eliminated the sales tax on prescription eyeglasses and contact lenses.
The change was the result of legislation passed in 2017 and is estimated to save Ohio consumers nearly $30 million annually, said state Sen. Bob Peterson (R-Fayette Co.), a supporter of the law.
Peterson says the change also helps Ohio businesses that sell eyewear to compete with neighboring states and online retailers, which do not charge sales tax.
