DELAWARE (AP) — Heavily favored Betting Line captured the Little Brown Jug under a cloud of controversy Thursday, after the discovery of text messages that implied the winning horse may have been given an unauthorized supplement.
Betting Line beat Western Fame going away by six lengths in a 1:49 world record for 3-year-old pacing colts on a half-mile track in the third leg of harness racing’s triple crown.
Driver David Miller won his fourth Jug win and trainer Casie Coleman her third, while Betting Line won his 13th straight race.
The discovery of questionable texts between Coleman and her caretakers prompted the filing of a protest earlier in the day by Western Fame trainer Jimmy Takter, as well as conditioners Ron Burke and Tony Alagna.
