School report cards

COLUMBUS, Ohio – For the first time since a data-scrubbing scandal was uncovered, parents and taxpayers in the Columbus City Schools are getting an accurate assessment of how the district is performing and it isn’t a pretty picture.

According to the 2013-14 School Report Cards released Friday by the Ohio Department of Education, the Columbus district received a grade of F in the number of education standards met (2 out of a possible 24) and a D in overall performance.

The report shows the district’s four-year graduation rate is 77 percent and 63.9 percent of the third-graders were reading at grade level.

District officials released astatement Friday afternoon saying that, while progress had been made sinvce the last evaluation, there was more work ti do.

“The fact remains that we are taking a hard look at what is working, what is not working, and why. We are analyzing the data and focusing on providing individualized educational services to each studen,” the statement read.

Among the central Ohio district that performed well: Olentangy and Upper Arlington with A’s for meeting 100 percent of the standards, and Dublin and Grandview Heights for receiving A’s in both standards achieved and performance index.

Grandview also boasted a 98.8 percent graduation rate.

This is the second year that the state has issued report cards with letter grades.
