COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Columbus City Schools need to cut about $50 million and the district’s budget director believes it can be done.
Robyn Essman outlined the need to reduce expenditures by approximately $50 million at the Board of Education’s meeting on Tuesday.
Essman said $22.7 million can be trimmed during the 2015 fiscal year, including the $8.9 saved by closing several school buildings.
When those cuts are added to the $21.5million Essman expects the district to save as part of its five-year financial plan, the district remained $5.8 million short of the mark, but Essman said that gap will be closed by a budget carryover from the current fiscal year.
