COLUMBUS – It will be loud, it will be inconvenient and it will last for more than three weeks, but when it’s done, crews will be a big step closer to keeping a major north-south artery through southern Delaware County from sliding into the Olentangy River.

Starting at 5:00 a.m. Monday, State Route 315 will close from south of State Route 750 (Powell Road) to Jewett Road for tree clearing and utility relocation. The detour is SR 750 to U.S. Route 23 to I-270 to SR 315.
During the closure, crews may be working around-the-clock using chippers, chainsaws, generators and lights.
The clearing is part of a project to stabilize the slope that supports 315 between Jewett Road and the Powell city limits to maintain the roadway and prevent further erosion generated by the river, according to Ohio Department of Transportation spokeswoman Nancy Burton.
The work is scheduled for completion on Feb. 14, weather permitting.
And that’s not all.
At 5:00 in the morning on Jan. 30, 315 will close from north of Powell to Retreat Lane for 3 ½ months for construction of the stabilization wall. The detour is Powell Road to U.S. 23 to SR 315 or reverse. Burton says that phase of the project is scheduled for completion May 8.
Burton says the slope will be stabilized by building a ‘plug pile’ wall, which does not require a causeway and which uses existing vegetation on the bank, disturbing less of the natural environment and resulting in a reduction of run-off into the river.
While SR 315 is closed SR 750 will remain open in both directions.
