Severe storms down trees, power lines

COLUMBUS, Ohio – A severe thunderstorm that moved through central Ohio Monday afternoon snapped trees, downed power lines, and prompted a tornado warning for heavily populated areas of Franklin and Licking counties.

The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for northern Franklin County and western Licking County shortly before 5:00 p.m. when radar detected a storm capable of producing a tornado near Bexley. The warning was cancelled about 30 minutes later.

The Columbus Dispatch reports more than 20,000 AEP customers in central Ohio were without power at one point Monday night.

Large trees were downed and there were several reports of structural damage across the area, including Victorian Village and areas southeast of downtown Columbus but there were no reports of injuries.
