Sheriff’s deputy dies in multi-vehicle crash

COLUMBUS — Authorities say a Franklin County sheriff’s deputy who was driving to work died when a dump truck crossed the median and crashed into her vehicle and several others.

The crash at approximately 1:30 p.m. Friday afternoon on U.S. Route 33 near Bowen Road in southeastern Franklin County sent two other drivers to the hospital with serious injuries, Lt Craig Cvetan of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.

Deputy Angela Kane, 51 died after a tire blew out on the dump truck and the driver lost control.

The Logan resident had been a deputy for 10 years.

The dump truck, driven by 51-year-old Ray Parks, of Columbus, was eastbound when the tire blew out and the truck crossed into the westbound lanes, striking Kane’s Ford Ridgeline pickup and four other vehicles before crossing back into the eastbound lanes and went off the right side of the roadway, Cvetan said.

A man and a woman who had been driving two of the other vehicles were taken to Mount Carmel East Hospital in serious condition, Cvetan said.

The dump truck driver and two other drivers were not injured. The crash is being investigated.
