Shoes for Shelters

COLUMBUS – A central Ohio dog rescue operation is hoping to save lives by saving soles.

Canine Collective, a private no-kill all breed dog rescue in Plain City, is accepting donations of gently worn, used or new shoes until June 30.

The shelter has partnered with Wooftrax and Funds2Orgs to re-purpose the donated shoes to more than 26 developing nations where the organizations will train residents how to run a small business by selling the shoes at local markets, spokeswoman Amy Wrobbel said.

Their “Shoes for Shelters” shoe drive will help raise funds for veterinarian expenses and medication for their rescued dogs.

Shelter officials say donors can drop off any size, gender or type of shoe at the Dublin Petsmart, 6010 Sawmill Road, Saturdays from noon until 3:00 p.m. or Mutts & Co., 7549 Sawmill Road, during regular business hours, or at the Canine Collective shelter, 11144 U.S. 42, Plain City, Saturday and Sunday between 1:00 and 4:00 p.m. or by appointment
