COLUMBUS – Police are investigating a shooting in front of an Ohio State University building that sent the mother of a student to a hospital Saturday afternoon.
It was one of nine shooting incidents in the city over the weekend, two of which ended in fatalities. and another which left a 17-year-old injured.
The university’s emergency management office sent out three alerts after the incident, which happened on High Street near the intersection with Chittenden Avenue in front of Drinko Hall.
The woman, whose name was not released, was walking south from W. 12th Avenue along the campus side of High Street with four friends at 5:20 p.m. when she heard a loud bang or gun shot as she walked past a bus shelter near Drinko Hall, university officials said.
She looked down at her right leg because she felt pain and observed the leg bleeding. Bystanders administered medical aid until law enforcement officers and medics arrived and took her to a hospital where she was listed in stable condition.
Several witnesses say two men ran east from the scene and police say they are now persons of interest.

Columbus police say a 17-year-old boy was shot in the leg late Sunday night but refused to disclose any details about the incident to investigators.
