Shooting is city’s 141st homicide of year

COLUMBUS – Columbus has added to its already record total number of homicides for a single year.

The shooting death outside a Southeast Side bar early Thursday morning was the 141st homicide of 2017, already the deadliest in Columbus history.

Carl Duncan had just left the Sand Pebble Lounge, 1913 Lockbourne Road, at the end of an evening out, and someone shot him to death before he could get into his vehicle, leaving him in the parking lot where he was found and pronounced dead about 2:25 a.m., said Homicide Unit Sgt. Jeff Strayer.

There are currently no suspects and no apparent motive for the shooting. The investigation continues.

Police dispatchers say the man, whose name was not available early Thursday, was shot in the rear of the Sand Pebble Lounge, 1913 Lockbourne Road, at 2:15 a.m., shortly after the bar closed.

There suspects in custody but no other information was available.
