Shooting suspect considered dangerous

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Police say a suspect in a deadly shooting on the East Side is considered armed and dangerous.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Sherrod Larry-Donell Gamble on a charge of murder in connection with the fatal shooting of Kieta Smith early Wednesday morning inside an apartment at 348 Roosevelt Avenue, Sgt. Jeffrey Strayer said.

Officers were called to the apartment just before 4:00 a.m. on a report that a man had been critically wounded as a result of a shooting, said Strayer. The officers found Smith, 34, unresponsive. In spite of efforts of paramedics to revive him, Strayer says Smith died a few minutes later.

Witnesses told investigators that Gamble, 36, fled the scene immediately following the shooting, Strayer said.

Strayer says anyone seeing Gamble should not approach him under any circumstances, but should immediately call 911.

This is the 29th homicide of 2015 in Columbus.
