Joseph Coleman, 48, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on Saturday after being shot in the 400 block of S. Champion Avenue on Jan 27, Columbus homicide detectives said.
Officers responding to a report of a shooting at 410 S. Ohio Avenue found Coleman and 48-year-old Jill O’Brien, police said.
The circumstances as to why Mr. Coleman was shot are still unclear and investigators are asking anyone with any information to contact the Columbus Police Homicide Unit at 614-645-4730 or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-TIPS (8477).
Coleman is the 17th homicide victim of the year in Columbus.
O’Brien told police she was inside a home on S. Ohio Avenue when Coleman was shot outside of a home on S. Champion Avenue and O’Brien was struck once in the shoulder by a bullet that came through the door, detectives said.
The investigation continues.
