Shots fired at police substation

COLUMBUS – Columbus police officers chased down a suspect who fired shots at one of the city’s police substations Wednesday morning.

Officers were inside the substation in the 400 block of Woodrow Avenue on the South Side at 11:20 a.m. when they heard a gunshot from outside and looked out to see the man firing shots at the substation, Det. Frank Miller of the felony assault unit said.

The man then fired shots at a 70-year-old man who was inside his vehicle at the stop sign at Ann Street and Woodrow Avenue, striking the hood of the vehicle.

After a short pursuit the 33-year-old suspect was taken into custody, Miller said.

Suspect in highway slaying arrested

Columbus SWAT officers arrested a 35-year-old man who has been charged with murder in the shooting death of another man on a South Side freeway earlier this month, Sgt. James Marable of the homicide unit.

Brad Madison was facing charges in connection with the death of 33-year-old Brandon Joiner, who was found near the scene of a single-vehicle accident on SR 104 near Haul Road early in the morning of May 16, Marable said.
