Shots fired while crowd watches women fight

COLUMBUS – Police say two men were shot when an altercation broke out among members of a large group of people who had gathered to watch two women fight on a South Side street late Monday night.

Officers responding to the intersection of E. Gates Street and Ann Street at approximately 10:08 p.m., after a 911 caller reported a man shot and lying on the ground, found Earl Lindsey suffering from a single gunshot wound to the back of his neck, Assault Unit investigators said.

While Lindsey, 27 (right), was being transported to a local hospital for treatment, detectives say officers got a report that a second man had been dropped off at a local hospital with a gunshot wound related to the incident.

Rashawn Wilson, 18, had been shot in the chest and was rushed into surgery, police said.

Witnesses told police that a large crowd had gathered to watch two unknown women fight when an altercation occurred between Wilson and Lindsey. Police say the witnesses told investigators that Lindsey pulled out a handgun and shot Wilson and fell to the ground.

Detectives determined that a third had pulled his handgun and shot Lindsey once in the neck.

Lindsey was charged with felonious assault but the incident remains under investigation, detectives said.
