COLUMBUS – Although many sports venues in Ohio are allowed to admit several thousand fans to their events, Ohio State athletics officials say most Buckeye spring sports won’t have the chance to open their gates to general fan attendance.
Under attendance policies the Department of Athletics has developed with Columbus Public Health, only men’s and women’s lacrosse at Ohio Stadium, and the men’s and women’s soccer and track and field teams, which compete at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium – will have an attendance increase that will allow them to admit the general public, according to a Department of Athletics release.
The university is still working with Columbus Public Health to determine attendance plans for the football spring game, scheduled for April 17 at Ohio Stadium.
Based on mapping and social distancing policies, capacities were determined by seating pods distanced six feet apart and with state-mandated thresholds of 30% capacity for outdoor venues and 25% for indoor venues.
