Sooner frosh QB talks some trash

COLUMBUS – There’s a right way to talk to the media about your opponent before a big game and there’s a wrong way.

(3/4) Ohio State (2-0) at (14) Oklahoma (1-1, Sat. Sept. 17, Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium (7:30 p.m. ET/FOX)

Oklahoma’s freshman backup quarterback chose the wrong way and may have inadvertently provided Buckeye coaches some bulletin board material, according to a report on the website elevenwarriors.com.

Austin Kendall appeared on SoonerSports TV and did a little smack-talking.

Asked about the Buckeye defense, which was not given up a touchdown – but has scored three – in its first two games of the season, Kendall damned Ohio State with faint praise indeed.

“I think they have a really basic defense. [Starting QB] Baker [Mayfield) – he’ll light them up. I’m really looking forward to it, and if my number’s called, I think I can do the same.”

The website says Ohio State coach Urban Meyer said on his radio call-in show Thursday that his staff would probably use that comment to remind the third-ranked Buckeyes that the 14th-ranked Sooners are dissing them in public.
