COLUMBUS, Ohio – Drivers on the South Side will think they’re seeing double. There will be four lanes of open highway on I-270 before Thanksgiving, according to the Ohio Department of Transportation.
ODOT’s $26 million project to widen I-270 from two to four lanes started in the Spring of 2013.
Crews will work overnight to open all four lanes westbound lanes and put exit-entrance ramps in their final configuration by 5:00 a.m. Saturday, ODOT spokeswoman Nancy Burton said.
By 5:00 a.m. all four lanes of I-270 west and all ramps will be open. Once all lanes are open, entrance ramp traffic from US 23 will no longer have to merge with I-270 through traffic.
The eastbound lanes are scheduled to open Saturday, Nov. 22 along with the ramp from US 23 south to I-270 east, which has been closed for a year.
9:00 p.m. Friday – I-270 west will be reduced to one lane between US 23 and I-71.
The following ramps will also close:
I-270 west to I-71 north (Detour: I-270 west to US 62 to I-270 east to I-71 north)
I-270 west to US 23 south (Detour: I-270 west to US 62 to I-270 east to US 23 south)
US 23 north to I-270 west (Detour: US 23 north to I-270 east to Alum Creek Drive to I-270 west)
US 23 south to I-270 west (Detour: US 23 south to SR 665 to I-71 north to I-270 west)
