COLUMBUS — The Ohio History Center is one of several museums and other facilities offering special hours or programs Monday to mark the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday.
NOTE: Government offices are closed for the holiday, there will be no mail delivery or trash/recycling pickup in Columbus. Most school districts will hold no classes, Columbus Metropolitan Library branches are closed. There are no classes at Ohio State University or Columbus State Community College,
The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. An historian will speak on the slain civil rights leader’s philosophy and vision.
Several themed tours of the museum’s collections are also planned.
One explores Ohio’s connection to the national civil rights movement.
Another explores Ohio’s first African American fighting unit, the Civil War-era 5th United States Colored Troops.
A third honors the service of the Tuskegee Airmen, African American military pilots who served in World War II.

The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium will offer a special free admission promotion in observance of the holiday during zoo operating hours 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.). The standard parking fees of $10 per vehicle — free for zoo members — will still apply.

U.S. Rep. Joyce Beatty (D-Columbus) will be the keynote speaker at the 35th annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Breakfast at the Greater Columbus Convention Center Monday. Doors open at 7:00 a.m.
