Stabbing result of mistaken identity

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Police reportedly say a fatal stabbing in a neighborhood near Ohio State University might be a case of misplaced revenge and mistaken identity.

Police tell The Columbus Dispatch the 23-year-old suspect apparently was trying to avenge an earlier attack on a friend when he stabbed a Columbus State Community College student early Sunday. John Snyder, 21, was found outside a home and died at a hospital.

Columbus police say suspect Alexander Delap confronted Snyder and another near the intersection of Summit Street and Northwood Avenue at approximately 3:00 a.m. because one wore a jacket matching a description of someone involved in the earlier attack.

Before he died, at OSU Medical Center shortly after 4:00 a.m., Snyder told police he and his friend were in the area but weren’t involved in the attack, Detective Jeff Brandt said.

Delap was arrested on a murder charge. It wasn’t immediately clear if he has an attorney.
