COLUMBUS – As parents wait for federal health agencies to approve a COVID vaccine for children, the state is encouraging them to make well-child appointments with their pediatrician and ensure their child is up-to-date on recommended vaccinations for other ailments.

The Ohio Dept. of Health is currently running a statewide campaign with public service announcements titled This Boo Boo to remind parents of the importance of getting their children vaccinated against diseases like like flu, whooping cough, tetanus, diphtheria and meningitis.

Data from the federal Data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services shows well-child visits decreased across the country from 2019 to 2020 and, due to decreasing preventative health visits during COVID-19 pandemic, some children are also behind on their recommended vaccinations.
