COLUMBUS – The Republican-controlled Ohio Senate on Wednesday passed a bill temporarily municipalities from banning the use of containers like plastic bags or bottles or placing taxes or fees on them.
A similar ban on single-use plastic bags has been enacted in Bexley.
Local governments are not allowed to ban the containers or impose “a tax or fee on the use, sale or consumption of such auxiliary containers” for one year.
Supporters claimed the COVID-19 pandemic accentuated the potential complications and the health and safety concerns of placing restrictions on auxiliary containers.
