Storms roll through Monday night

COLUMBUS – Strong thunderstorms packing winds of nearly 50 mph knocked down trees and power lines and dumped heavy rains on central Ohio as the Labor Day weekend drew to a close.

The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for northeastern Franklin, southern Delaware and northern Licking County at 5:00 p.m. but no tornadoes were confirmed.

The weather service says observers will be in Delawrre and Union countries Tuesday to survey damage.

A large tree fell onto a house and a barn was blown down 5 miles east of Marysville. More trees were blown down in Delaware County, including several near Glen Oak Elementary School in Powell, and there were numerous reports of trees and utility lines down in northern Licking County.

The weather service reported nearly 5 inches of rain fell near Prospect, in Mrion County, and high water was reported on roadways in Delaware County. More than 2 1/2 inches of rain fell in Dublin and many locations in the northern half of Franklin County recorded more than an inch of rainfall.

Approximately 19,000 American Electric Power customers reportedly lost service during the storm.
