Stormy weekend

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The weekend in central Ohio may be punctuated by severe weather.

Central Ohio, including Columbus, was part of a large area under a tornado watch until 9:00 p.m. Sunday.

Reports of a funnel cloud prompted a Tornado Warning for parts of Champaign, Madison and Union counties.

There were reports of trees downed by high winds near Richwood, in Union County, and Ashley, in Delaware County just before 4:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

A Flood Advisory was issued from shortly after 4:00 p.m. until 7:15 p.m. for northern Franklin County, including Dublin, Hilliard and the OSU campus area.

The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center has placed all of Ohio under a slight for severe storms for both Saturday and Sunday, ABC6/FOX28 meteorologist Dana Turtle says.

“We’re anticipating several clusters of storms to move through during the weekend. Some storms could be severe Saturday evening and again on Sunday,” he said.

The Weather Service says warm, moist air ahead of a cold front will create conditions ripe for severe weather, heavy rain, large hail, damaging winds and dangerous lighting.

Turtle says a few isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out.
