No injuries were reported in the incident at Columbus Scioto 6-12 school, 2951 South High Street, said Division of Police Chief Kim Jacobs.

Adan Abdullahi was charged with improperly discharging a firearm in a school safety zone, a felony of the second degree and Jacobs says other charges could be forthcoming.

Officers responding to the report of a student firing shots in the building at approximately 8:33 a.m. were told by school employees that a student fired multiple shots inside the school, Jacobs said.

Abdullahi was taken into custody at 8:58 a.m. without incident, she said

“Our officers did a superb job of rapidly responding, securing the scene, working with school officials and neighboring law enforcement agencies as well as getting students out of harm’s way and the suspect quickly into custody. We are grateful that no one was injured and for the excellent cooperation throughout this incident from all involved,” said Jacobs.

A gun was recovered at the scene. The investigation is ongoing, Jacobs said.

Police radio traffic indicated that students and faculty were evacuated from the building.
