COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State received about 13,000 tickets for the Buckeyes’ College Football Playoff semifinal game against Alabama Jan. 1 and they go on sale starting Monday.

No. 4 Ohio State (12-1) plays top-seed Alabama (12-1) at the Allstate Sugar Bowl at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans (8:30 p.m./ESPN). Oregon is the second seed and will play Florida State in the other semifinal at the Rose Bowl, also on New Year’s Day. The winners will advance to the national championship game to be played Jan. 12 at the home of the Dallas Cowboys in Arlington, Texas.
Fans who want to be included on the waiting list for the public sale of tickets in the Ohio State section should sign up online. Prices start at $195 including service charges.
Donor groups, season ticket holders, and Varsity O Football members are getting the first shot at the tickets until 5:00 p.m. Monday. The faculty, staff and student ticket lotteries begin Tuesday, followed by the sale to the general public, beginning with the names on the waiting list.
Every bowl-eligible team in the Big Ten will go to the postseason after all, only the the second time in conference history that the conference has sent 10 teams to bowl games.
The league had 10 eligible teams, but was at risk of filling just nine spots if Michigan State had been picked for the Orange Bowl. But Mississippi State earned the nod over the Spartans by finishing a spot ahead of them in the final playoff rankings.
That in turn opened up a spot for the Big Ten in the Citrus Bowl.
Michigan State will now face Baylor in the Cotton Bowl, while Minnesota will play Missouri in the Citrus.
The Buckeyes’ opponent in the conference championship game, Wisconsin, will play Auburn in the Outback Bowl on Jan. 1 in Tampa.
Nebraska plays USC in the National University Holiday Bowl on Dec. 27 in San Diego.
Iowa makes its sixth bowl appearance in the last seven seasons, taking on Tennessee in the TaxSlayer Bowl Jan. 2 in Jacksonville, Fla.
Penn State will be the first Big Ten team to travel to the New Era Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium where the Nittany Lions will play Boston College on Dec. 27.
Following its first season as a Big Ten member, Maryland will face Stanford in the Foster Farms Bowl on Dec. 30 in Santa Clara, Calif.
Fellow conference newcomer Rutgers also earned a bowl berth and will face North Carolina in the inaugural Quick Lane Bowl Dec. 26 in Detroit.
The program that appeared to be in the most peril was Illinois, which finished just 6-6. But the Illini are in the Heart of Dallas bowl against Louisiana Tech.
