WALTHAM, Mass. (AP) – Domestic violence charges against former Ohio State basketball standout Jared Sullinger have been dismissed.
Sullinger pleaded not guilty last month to charges including assault and battery and intimidation of a witness after his girlfriend told police he had repeatedly pinned her to a bed and the floor on Aug. 31.
A spokeswoman for Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said a Waltham District Court judge on Monday granted a defense motion to dismiss the charges after the alleged victim reported she would invoke her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination and would not testify as a witness in the case.
The spokeswoman said that without the woman’s testimony, prosecutors believed they would not be able to prove the charges beyond a reasonable doubt.
A graduate of Northland High School, Sullinger now plays for the Boston Celtics of the NBA.
