COLUMBUS – An 18-year-old man is in jail, charged with murder in connection with a triple shooting in July that left a woman dead.
Anthony Humphrey Jr. was identified as the suspect in the fatal shooting of Dariene Smith on July 11. Humphrey was arrested without incident Monday and taken to the Franklin County Jail, Sgt. Doug Jones of the Homicide Unit said.
Smith, 23, died after being shot in the back, along with two other people, near the Cantina Bar, near the intersection of School Street and Spruce Street in the Arena District.
Another victim of the shooting told police he was outside the bar when a fight broke out between two men and one of them started shooting at the other, Jones said.
The man said he and Smith ran away and were both shot.
A third victim who showed up at Grant Medical Center with a gunshot wound to his right hand told police he was also in the area when he was shot.
Smith died later that morning, the 65th homicide of 2020 in Columbus.
