Suspect arrested in South Side shooting

COLUMBUS – A South Side man is under arrest in the shooting death of a man found lying in the suspect’s driveway yesterday morning.

Police say Douglas Baisden shot Pete Staten in the chest during a fight outside Blaisden’s home on Castle Road near S. High Street.

Officers and medics dispatched to a report of a shooting in the area of Castle Road and S. High Street at approximately 11:00 a.m. found Staten, 51, lying in the driveway at 33 W. Castle Road, suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest, Sgt. Dave Sicilian of the Homicide Unit said. He died about a half hour later at the Grant Medical Center emergency room, Sicilian said.

Witnesses told investigators Baisden 52,and Staten were involved in an altercation which resulted in the shooting. Police arrested Baisden in the rear of 2514 S. High Street, a few blocks away and he was charged with, Sicilian said.

This is the 29th homicide of the year in Columbus.
