COLUMBUS, Ohio – Columbus police say a number of weapons and two small children were inside a Southeast Side apartment where a deadly shootout erupted between a man and two Franklin County probation officers which left the suspect dead.

Columbus police say the two officers from the Franklin County Adult Probation Department went to 2850 Petzinger Road shortly after 9:30 Thursday morning to serve a probation violation warrant on Tyshawn Hancock, Columbus p0olice spokesman Sgt. Rich Weiner said.
When they found Hancock, 37, in an upstairs bedroom Weiner says he lunged for a gun and attacked one of the officers. There was an exchange of gunfire and Hancock and one of the officers were hit.
Bother were taken to Grant Medical Center where Hancock died about a half hour after the shooting.
The probation officer was recovering following survey, police said.
A second officer at the scene was not injured, police said.
Police say two children, ages three and eight, were in the home with their grandparents but none of them were injured.
Weiner says Hancock also went by the name Paharqua Nzinga El.
The incident is under investigation by the Critical Incident Response Team, he said.
