NEWARK – Newark police say they’ve arrested a 78-year-old Millersport man suspected of approaching two young women, offering to give them rides and picking up one of them.
Thomas Cheney will be charged with one count of attempted gross sexual imposition, pending a review by the Licking County Prosecutor’s office, Det. Sgt. Scott Snow said.
Snow says Cheney was arrested after police got a tip from someone who had seen a description of the pickup Cheney was driving on March 24, when he allegedly tried to abduct two women.
Cheney approached two women on Everett Avenue between 11:30am and noon and tried to lure them into his Ford F-150 full-size pickup with tinted windows and a cap on the back (pictured above). Police say he stopped a teenage girl and asked for directions and if she wanted to a ride.
When she declined and walked away, police say Cheney approached a 19-year-old woman, who got into the truck with him, and they drove away, entering State Route 16 eastbound from N. Cedar Street.
The woman was located unharmed later.
