Suspect in early-morning shooting arrested

COLUMBUS – A murder suspect who had been described as armed and dangerous was arrested by Columbus police downtown Thursday after a day on the run.

Jakobe McCall (right) was arrested at 9:00 p.m. by SWAT officers after he was charged with the murder of a 46-year-old woman during an argument inside a Southeast Side apartment early that morning, according to homicide unit Sgt. Jeff Strayer.

Police say McCall, 19, and Naika Brown were arguing inside McCall’s apartment in the Aston Villas Apartments at approximately 5:26 a.m. when McCall shot Brown, whose body was found by police officers called to the building on Citizens Place, Strayer said.

An arrest warrant was issued for McCall on a charge of murder and the public was advised not to approach him because was considered “armed and dangerous,” according to a release from the Homicide Unit.

This was the 97th homicide of the year in Columbus.
