Suspect in fatal hit-skip surrenders

COLUMBUS – A 20-year-old man is in jail after turning himself in to police early Thursday in connection with a hit-skip incident that left a woman dead in the Linden area Monday night.

Armoni Bruce turned himself in to Columbus Police Accident Investigation Unit investigators and was taken to the Franklin County Jail on a felony charge of hit-skip in the death of Alice Johnson, Sgt. Brooke Wilson said

Johnson, 57, of Columbus, was crossing Cleveland Avenue near Maynard Avenue at approximately 10:45 p.m. Monday when witnesses told police she was struck by a silver Jeep Liberty that was travelling southbound on Cleveland Avenue, Det. Connie Brant of the Columbus Police Accident Investigation Unit said.

Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene by Columbus fire personnel while Brant says the SUV continued southbound and was recovered shortly afterward by police in the area of Mt. Carmel West Hospital where it had been abandoned.
