Cassius Crome allegedly walked into the CVS pharmacy at 1515 W. Broad Street at 8:04 a.m. armed with a gun and demanding narcotics from the pharmacy, Division of Police spokeswoman Denise Alex-Bouzounis said.
As Crome headed toward a vehicle parked nearby, Ofc. Andrew Radich arrived on the scene and tried to stop him from getting into the vehicle, firing a shot that struck the man, Alex-Bouzounis said.
Crome got into the vehicle and drove off, causing an accident at I-70 and West Broad Street, then took off again in his vehicle and was stopped and arrested on Belvidere Avenue, Alex-Bouzounis said.
A gun was recovered and Crome, 38, was taken to Grant Medical Center where Alex-Bouzounis said he was in stable condition.
He was charged with aggravated robbery and more charges could be forthcoming. The car he was driving was reported stolen, Alex-Bouzounis said.
Alex-Bouzounis says detectives are looking into whether Crome has committed other recent robberies.
There were no injuries to any officers, witnesses or victims, she said.
