COLUMBUS, Ohio – A suspected child rapist from Massachusetts who may have passed through Columbus during a multi-state crime spree is back behind bars.

Police in Southbridge, Mass., say Gregory Lewis, 26, was captured in Ft. Edward, N.Y. He was reported to be in Columbus Sunday.
Lewis had cut off his GPS tracking bracelet before he went on the run in September and was suspected of committing crimes as far west as Boise, according to police.
Lewis was taken into custody just before midnight on Tuesday after crashing his car into a river in and pulling a gun on a witness in the village of Ft. Edward, New York, 50 miles northwest of Massachusetts near the Vermont border, according to authorities.

A New York State Police trooper spotted Lewis driving with missing license plates on his car and, when the New York officer tried to stop the car, Lewis fled, according to a post on the Columbus police Facebook page. A short time later, police received 911 calls reporting that a car had crashed into a river in Ft. Edward, said the post, which attributed the information to the Massachusetts State Police.
