Suspects in deaths of pregnant woman, baby’s father, arrested

COLUMBUS – Columbus police say they have arrested two men accused of gunning down a pregnant woman whose baby was delivered alive, the child’s father and a teenager during a New Year’s Day robbery on the West Side.

Patrol officers pulled over a vehicle Christian Dillon (above, left) and Mario Wade (right) were riding in near Eakin Road on Wednesday, said Sgt. Jeff Strayer of the Homicide Unit. The men tried to run away but Strayer says they were caught by additional responding officers.

Dillon, 19, and Wade, 18, were both charged with murder in the year’s second and third homicides in Columbus, the shooting deaths of Keith Brian Williams III, 23; Marlazia Jones-Mattox, 21, during a break-in at a home in the 600 block of Hague Avenue just before midnight on Jan. 1.

Jones-Mattox, who was approximately 35 weeks pregnant, died about 30 minutes later at Mt. Carmel West Hospital but doctors delivered her baby boy, who survived, Strayer said.

An unidentified 15-year-old boywas also critically injured during the shooting.
