COLUMBUS – Ohio is home to the world’s oldest dog.
At 23 years and 7 days old, as of Dec. 7, Spike, a Chihuahua mix from Camden, in Preble County in southwest Ohio, is recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s oldest dog.
Spike’s current owners found him in the parking lot of a local grocery store in August 2009 and brought him home, owner Rita Kimball said.
Spike wakes up around 7:00 a.m. and spends his time visiting the cows, horses, and barn cats on the Kimballs’ farm.
Despite being almost blind and hard of hearing, Spike is also a big help with chores. Kimball says he enjoys riding tractors and tagging along when the Kimball’s cut wood.
Spike was born in November 1999 and was named world’s oldest dog on Dec. 7, 2022.
