Taxpayers get a few extra days

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Franklin County property owners are getting a little extra time to get their payments to the treasurer’s office next month.

The deadline for making first-half 2015 property tax payments has been moved back to Jan. 30 because of a computer upgrade, Treasurer Ed Leonard said.

The treasurer and auditor’s offices upgraded their software systems recently and the deadline has been extended to ensure “timely billing and processing this collection cycle under these new systems,” according to a release from Leonard’s office.

Tax bills are expected to be mailed the first week of January, the release said

A homeowner can pay their bill before receiving it in the mail by printing the bill from the treasurer’s website and sending it in with payment or paying online. Online credit card payments will be assessed a 2.35 percent fee but payments by e-check will be processed free of charge.

Homeowners will be able to view and print their tax bill from the treasurer’s website on Dec. 31.

Taxpayers can also pay via annual, semi-annual, or monthly direct debit payments from their checking or savings accounts.

Check payments may be deposited any time of the day or night in a collection box in the lobby of the county courthouse building, 365 S. High Street. Checks received in the collection box by 8:00 a.m. will be treated as if received on the previous day.

Payments are also accepted by mail or in person at the treasurer’s office on the 17th floor of the courthouse complex, 373 S. High Street, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The office will be closed on Monday, Jan. 19th in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Tax bills can also be paid at 11 Heartland Bank locations.
