Teen charged in city’s 100th homicide

COLUMBUS – A 16-year-old has been charged with the 100th homicide of the year in Columbus.

Basiru Camara was found lying on the floor, suffering from an apparent head injury, inside a home in the 2200 block of Gerbert Road on the afternoon of Dec. 5 by officers responding to a reported assault.

He was taken to Riverside Methodist Hospital in stable condition but the 31-year-old man died on Tuesday, according to Sgt. David Shimberg of the Homicide Unit.

Investigators determined that Camare was fighting with Xavion Myles, a 16-year-old boy police say lived at the address. Shimberg says the fight escalated to a point where the suspect struck the victim in the head.

Myles was charged with felonious assault but Shimberg says additional charges are pending.
