COLUMBUS – A 14-year-old boy was in critical but stable condition after police say he accidentally shot himself in the head Wednesday afternoon.

6/12/19@2:39pm officers dispatched to 1798 Jermain Dr. on a shooting. Officers located 14yo Jelon Armstrong (M/B) suffering from a gunshot wound to his head.

Witnesses told detectives that Jelon Armstrong was handling a firearm in an unsafe manner inside a home in the 1700 block of Jermain Drive on the Northeast Side at approximately 2:39 p.m. when the gun went off, Det. Steven Kaethow said.
The teen was taken to a hospital in critical but stable condition, Kaethow said.
