Officers who heard gunshots in the area of Watkins Road and Bluefield Drive at approximately 5:38 a.m. went to investigate and saw an SUV driving at a high rate of speed.

They stopped the vehicle in the 1300 block of Moundview Avenue, where Osmin Hernandez, 21, got out of the SUV with a rifle and two officers fired their weapons.

Hernandez was caught later, shoeless and hiding in some nearby bushes, and a rifle was recovered, police said.

He was uninjured and was charged with the discharge of a firearm on or near prohibited premises, a felony.

The driver of the vehicle was interviewed and released.
