COLUMBUS – A 14-year-old Galloway boy was killed in a single-vehicle accident in Pleasant Township in western Franklin County Tuesday morning, according to Franklin County Sheriff Zach Scott.
Stevie Ray was riding in a Toyota 4Runner SUV that was traveling southbound on Darby Creek Road just before 11:30 a.m. when the driver lost control and the vehicle went off the roadway, north of Alkire Road, overturned and struck a tree, Scott said.
Ray was trapped inside the SUV and was pronounced dead at the scene, Scott said.
Ray was a student at Hilliard Memorial Middle School where Principal Barry Bay says counselors will be available.
The driver, Jeremey Travis Taylor, 16, and a 13-year-old family member, Austen Taylor, both of Galloway, were taken to Nationwide Children’s with non-life threatening injuries by Pleasant Township Medics, said Scott.
Scott says neither alcohol nor drugs were a factor and all three boys were wearing seatbelts.
The incident remains under investigation.
