COLUMBUS – A 17-year-old shot during a violent robbery in Beechwold Tuesday afternoon is the victim of the 97th homicide of the year in Columbus.
Duvon Mathews and the person trying to hold him up were both shot during the incident at an apartment building on the corner of N. High Street and Leland Avenue at 2:43 p.m., according to detectives with the Columbus Police Homicide Unit.
Officers responding to a report of a shooting in the 4500 block of N High Street found Mathews and the suspect, who were transported to OSU Medical Center by Columbus paramedics, police said.
Mathews was pronounced dead just after midnight Wednesday, police said.
The name of the suspect was not released early Thursday.
The investigation is continuing.
